The Savannah Food & Wine Festival, presented by Publix, is getting ready for its premier dining extravaganza on Wednesday, November 6 with the Friends of James Beard Benefit Dinner. This six-course, wine-paired dinner unites foodies and enophiles from around the globe, bringing together wine experts and chefs from around the country. An invite-only list of local, superstar Savannah chefs participate in the Champagne & Cocktail Reception, working alongside the celebrity guest chefs.

The Perry Lane Hotel is the host location for the dinner, with the Champagne & Cocktail Reception on the rooftop ballroom terrace and dinner in the rooftop ballroom, with its expansive glass windows and beautiful views of downtown Savannah. The Friends of James Beard Dinner is a celebration of all things epicurean. The courses for the dinner and the wines are carefully paired and it’s a fun, interactive experience where guests get to meet culinary superstars in an intimate setting.

 

There are 172 professionals who have earned the title of Master Sommelier as part of the Americas chapter of Court of Master Sommeliers, since the organization’s inception. Of those, 144 are men and 28 are women. Lucky guests will get to meet one of those 28 women, as Gillian Ballance with Treasury Wine Estates pairs a wine for a course. In addition, guest will experience cuisine from famed chefs from Savannah and all around the country, such as Barton Seaver. Seaver is a James Beard Foundation award-winning author, educator and national spokesman for seafood sustainability. He has just released his newest cookbook, The Joy of Seafood, designed to make home cooks more comfortable with preparing fish as part of their everyday diet. Bryan Furman of B’s Cracklin’ Barbecue was recently named one of Food & Wine Magazine’s 2019 Best New Chefs and nominated for 2019 Best Chef Southeast, James Beard Foundation.

There are limited tickets remaining for the dinner, tickets can be purchased here. Proceeds from the dinner benefit the James Beard Foundation. Tickets are all-inclusive of taxes and gratuities, including the Champagne & Cocktail Reception at 6:00 pm, followed by the six-course plated dinner, with wine pairings for each course, at 7:00 pm.
